Since getting television at the beginning of the summer, I've discovered the Food Network, and the cornucopia of good cooking shows available. I've learned a ridiculous amount, and I'm loving every second (I've never used so much olive oil in my life--thanks Jamie!).
But it occurred to me the other day that none of these challenge cooking shows is really like what I'm doing in the kitchen: I have yet to see any of the chefs on Iron Chef or Throwdown or Next Food Network Star have to cook with a 3 and 4 year old standing on stools at the counter with them. That's how I cook. Six hands, flour on the floor, two of everything because obviously if the one gets to stir an egg in a bowl, the other one has to as well; and don't tell me the recipe only calls for one egg...please.
So here's a challenge for you, Food Network rock stars: show me that you could actually handle being in my kitchen with eager sous chefs at the ready, with more passion than pastry knowledge. That's how to cook.
