Today we had Ben Hearsum come to speak to students working on Mozilla development projects, specifically those that touch build and buildbot. It's always great to have Mozilla drop-by, but today was especially meaningful because not that long ago, Ben was on the other side of this exchange, hacking buildbot under the guidance of Rob Helmer and others on the build team, while studying at Seneca. We also had a chance to hear about the work he's doing now, and plan some build projects for the fall. Chris, Ben, and I also did some more work to sketch-out a new build/automation course Chris is planning for winter 2009.
For whatever reason, students seem drawn to build work, and it's amazing to have Ben to point them to for guidance and inspiration. He says he'll come again, and I for one am looking forward to it.
